Annelise Michelson doesn’t have any formal schooling in jewelry making, but it hasn’t prevented her from creating some of the most avant-garde pieces the industry has seen in decades.
Originally trained as a fashion designer at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris, Michelson began her career designing ready-to-wear for labels such as Vanessa Bruno, Paul and Joe, and Hermès. Her foray into the jewelry world began when a friend asked her to create pieces for a Vogue Paris shoot styled by then editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld. Roitfeld adored the pieces and success ensued, resulting in Michelson’s namesake line, which carries earrings, necklaces, rings, and cuffs.
Inspired by organic shapes and often contradictory themes found in nature (such as her carnivore collection and signature ear cuff, which was one of the first of its kind), Michelson’s pieces are handmade from 100% French materials in Paris.
